What do you even do, Jess? What is a Fractional FD?
My husband really struggles with this when he asks what I do because there isn’t really a simple way of summarising this without some corporate vagaries or jargon filled platitudes. If I can’t explain it to the guy that spends the most time with me then I need to learn how to explain it better to those that are just meeting me.
So, here are three things I actually do:
1. As a business owner, leading your business through growth needs a shift in your financial firepower. You might have had a team or a system set up capable of supporting you at £3m turnover, but at £20m turnover, naturally you need something different. I can help you shape the team, the system and the governance that takes you where you want to go.
2. As you grow, your bank, your auditor, your investors and others might have started asking more questions about your forecasting and future stability. I can work with you to shape forecasting credibility and carry out some scenario analysis so that you can plan for stormy weather while the sun is shining and give your stakeholders the assurance they’re seeking.
3. I can act as an extension to your current FD when you’re going through a transformation project to give them the headspace to design and implement the new model in their way without worrying about or being distracted by the cogs turning on the day to day.
